If you are looking for a way to teach your dog to walk with you politely, without the aggravating pulling that so many dogs are known for, you might want to consider loose leash training. It is thought that this can be one of the best ways to train your dog so that both you and he can enjoy your walks without feeling as if you’re always being forced to control him. Loose leash training and walking is a technique that will allow your dog freedom of movement, away from your side, but not at the risk of pulling on the leash and hurting themselves or you.
Some people who choose loose leash training choose special types of training equipment, such as a flat buckle collar, which should be used when training your dog. If you’re not going to be training, then your pet will be allowed to walk the way she always has, so pulling isn’t an issue and you can use your normal leash and collar for that. Training equipment isn’t necessary for loose leash training, but you might find that if you choose to use this equipment when you’re working on training your dog, you get better faster results. Always remember that it’s important to be consistent so that you will get the results you are looking for.
The important thing to keep in mind with the loose leash training method is that consistency is the key to success. You will always want to make sure that when you are training you are training, otherwise no matter how much equipment you have, you will never be successful in training your dog to walk politely by your side. So, when you start loose leash training, make sure that you will have the time to devote to working with your dog and helping her to learn how to walk well with you.
If you’re beginning to doubt this training method, you should consider that loose leash training, when done properly is probably one of the simplest ways to train your puppy to walk with you. Here’s why it works: when you are loose leash training your dog and she is pulling and pulling at the collar, you stand perfectly still. Once she stops pulling at the leash, you can walk again. The walking is a reward to your pooch for not pulling at the leash. As time goes on, you will find that your dog pulls at the leash less and less and is respectful of you and the control you have on the leash.
If you want to train your dog to never pull on a leash again, then you should try loose leash training. Your walks will become more fun and this is a safe, effective form of training that your dog can learn no matter how old he is. While it’s easiest to train a puppy, you can even loose leash train an old dog and find that you have positive results, so maybe it’s time for you to make walking with your dog the fun you know it can be and begin loose leash training.
