Dog Care and Training for Beginners

Dog Behavior and Obedience Training and Caring For Health Problems

If you have recently acquired a pet dog for the first time, you will want to learn a few things about their dog care and training so that you can become a responsible owner. Contrary to what many people think, there is so much more to dog health and dog training, than simply feeding your pet everyday and teaching him to go potty where you want him to.

Dog Training- Obedience and Behavioral

If you plan on training your dog at all, experts recommend that you start doing it as early as possible in your dog’s life. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to get the dog to follow any of your commands. There are two basic types of training that you can choose from — behavioral training and obedience training.

Behavioral dog training is designed to prevent bad habits from developing, while dog obedience training prevents your pet from getting easily bored.

Dog Food Is Important

In addition to training, you should also take good care of their dog health. You have to make sure that the food you give him contains all the nutrients that he needs in order to grow properly. You should also learn about which dog foods are not to be given to your pet, lest they cause allergic reactions or other harmful side effects. There are many dog food dangers you need to be aware of.

There are many people that are concerned over dog food conspiracies and choose to use only natural holistic foods or make their own.

Dog Behavior Training

Another important aspect of dog care and training is to ensure that your pet stays well-behaved at all times. In other words, you should be able to teach him not to bark at the mailman every single day, or to stay put and not jump at you each time you come home from work, or to wait until feeding time instead of begging for scraps under the table as you eat your dinner.

Proper dog care and training should also address the issue of the problem of some puppies and their chewing, which is a very common problem especially when the dog is still very young and has just discovered the fun of chewing different objects. Grooming your pet is also an important part of dog health care. Some pet owners think that grooming is all about bathing the dog and combing his fur, but it should also include cleaning and caring for his nails, eyes and ears.

Dog care and training does require patience, time and effort from the dog owner, but it can also be a pleasurable experience for both you and your furry friend. The first few weeks may be difficult for a new pet owner but in time, you and your pet will learn to enjoy the process and even use this time to strengthen your bond with each other.

Basic Tips On Care For A Small Pet Dog

Small breeds of dogs often make wonderful pets because they are so cute and cuddly. But if you want them to stay not only cute and cuddly but healthy and happy as well, you must be able to provide them the right kind of care for a small pet dog. Here are some basic tips so you don’t have any dog behavior problems or any possible dog health problems.

A Healthy Balanced Dog Diet

In providing care for a small pet dog, dog food is probably the most basic area that you should start with. Practically all dogs have the same dietary needs in terms of the type of nutrients, and the only difference lies in the amount of food that they need. Obviously, smaller dogs require less food than larger ones. On the average, an adult small dog would eat three meals a day, with each meal consisting of one or two cups of dog food. You may even like to provide your puppy with natural dog food for holistic health.

Water is also an essential element when giving care for a small pet dog. An especially active dog who gets plenty of exercise will need more water than one who is more laid-back. Also, dogs will drink more in hot weather so you have to make sure their water bowl never dries up during these times. It is the practice of some dog owners to limit their dog’s water intake in order to reduce the frequency of peeing inside the house. While this may seem logical from some points of view, it is not really the way to care for a small pet dog.

A Comfortable and Safe Shelter

Small dogs are usually kept indoors and given its own bed in one area of the house. Some people even allow their dogs to sleep in the bed with them. But if your dog is to stay outdoors, even for just a few hours at a time, you should provide it with a comfortable shelter to keep him safe from the rain, snow or the heat of the sun. Care for a small pet dog is particularly important during the winter or the rainy season, when the dog’s own fur may not be enough to protect him from the cold.

Give Your Small Pet Dog A Loving and Friendly Environment

Even if you give him all the right food and a proper shelter, your dog won’t be completely happy and healthy unless you are able to show him sufficient love and affection. When you can do that, then you know you are truly ready to care for a small pet dog.
