Dog Behavior – The Importance of Teaching Your Dog to Behave

Bad dog behavior is not only annoying and irritating but it can also become dangerous at times. For this reason, it is crucial for all dog owners to realize just how important it is to train their dogs to behave properly at all times and in all places. Dogs that don’t know how to behave well were not really born bad. Instead, it is very likely that they were exposed to stimulus during the early parts of their life that eventually led them to develop the unpleasant dog behavior.

Young puppies will have very different reactions to the things and people around them. Other dogs may also develop similar behavior but not because of protective instincts but because of fear. Fearful dog behavior can easily be identified by the pulling back of the ears and the lowering of the tail. The protective dogs on the other hand will show more aggressive barking and will have their ears tilted forward. They will also be able to maintain steady eye contact with the person they consider to be a threat.

With both types of dogs, biting is a very strong possibility, which is why they can become a menace to neighbors and strangers unless their behavior is adequately corrected. In order to prevent a young puppy from developing such nasty dog behavior, it is important to expose him to different kinds of people at a very early age.

Encourage him to be friendly with visitors and take him to public places like dog-friendly parks and playgrounds to help him get familiar with the sight and sounds of people. Help him get comfortable in the company of people and show him that there is nothing to fear when he is around humans.

When you are able to instill good dog behavior in your puppy while he is still young, you can rest assured that he will carry this behavior with him as he grows older. Ultimately, you will have a more pleasant and much safer relationship with your neighbors if you have a well-behaved dog.
