Potty Pads for Puppy Potty Training
Plenty of pet owners prefer keeping their canine companions indoors. They are there to enjoy a television program or buddy up on the couch. If the dog isn’t properly potty trained however, you not only bring in the dog, but their “accidents” as well. This is a prime reason for early puppy potty training and potty training pads.
Potty pads for dog training are especially helpful if you have carpeted floors or floors that are more difficult to maintain. Another good reason for potty pads for training is if you have toddlers crawling about on the floor with their toys. Regardless of the situation, stepping in an unexpected puddle or poop pile isn’t very pleasurable.
Training pads are made of absorbent material. This material is designed to hold “accidents”. Scented varieties are also available to assist with training. When the dog in training catches the scent, it encourages use of the pad instead of other places in the house.
It is recommended to keep the training pads in one particular location of the house. Your best bet is usually near the kitchen or bathroom in the event of a leak or other mishap and you need quick access to cleaning materials and waste baskets.
When using training pads, just like any other form of training for a canine, positive reinforcement is encouraged. Acknowledge that your four legged friend used the pad for the appropriate purpose and praise him. You can pet and express gratitude or even offer a treat. Positive reinforcement in training is much more effective than yelling and physical punishment when the dog didn’t use the training pad.
Some dogs even use these training pads for beds. There are oval, round and square variations of training pads available for this purpose. When trying to teach your dog to stay off furniture and lay in their designated spot, these pads are very helpful. They even have dial-controlled heated pads available for those colder months.
Innovative designs and advanced technology of training pads of course results in a higher price, but they allow for easier training and make keeping your pet indoors safe and stain-free. Potty training pads are relatively inexpensive and a lesser-known dog training tool. Especially helpful for those in apartments and condos where limited or no backyard space is available, dog training pads prove to be very useful. Whether used as a toilet or bed area, the canine training pads are probably one of the least expensive and most important supplies for any pet owner during training periods.
