Many pet owners prefer natural remedies for dog treatments over conventional treatments. While there are definitely advantages to using natural treatments, some dog owners are also concerned about the safety of natural remedies.
It would be logical to presume that all natural remedies are safe to use because they contain no artificial chemicals. Generally, this is true but you do have to take other factors into consideration when gauging the safety and effectiveness of any treatment method.
You have to make sure that you get your information from a reliable source or someone you trust. Too many websites today contain unverified information on health and medicine, so you should be wary of trusting online sources. You can always check with your vet or the actual supplier too.
If you have any questions about the natural treatments I share, please just ask me in the comment section below, as I am happy to contact the manufacturer on your behalf.
You should also consider the gravity of your dog’s situation before proceeding with any natural remedies used for treating dogs. For minor injuries, natural treatments would ordinarily suffice, but if they are bleeding or hurt badly, contact your vet immediately!
Common Natural Remedies for Dogs
As mentioned, natural remedies for dogs are basically safe if you follow instructions and know what you’re treating. That said, you may now be wondering what would be the best natural treatments for some of the more common illnesses in dogs are.
Dog Arthritis and Joint Pain Remedies
One of the most prevalent dog health problems is arthritis. It is estimated that more than 20% of all dogs will suffer from arthritis as they get older. So if you have a senior pet, you should watch for signs of arthritis and joint pain. I have written about one homeopathic formula here:
Dog Skin and Allergy Remedies
Many dogs suffer with skin problems, such as dermatitis or skin allergies.
If your dog has fur falling off, inflamed skin, incessant scratching, constant licking of the paws — these are some of the common signs and symptoms of a dog allergy. If your dog has been exhibiting any of these symptoms recently, then you have to consider several possibilities of what could be wrong.
The first problem that most dog owners would think of in these situations is flea allergy dermatitis. However, if you don’t see any fleas on your dog, you will have to dig deeper in order to find out what is causing the allergic reactions.
Some of the possible causes for the allergies are dust, pollen or molds, in which case the application of a special ointment or a tar shampoo may help a lot in reducing the inflammation. In order to get rid of the itching, you can use natural anti-itch shampoos and powders.
Once the allergen has been identified, you will be able to use a natural remedy. Again there are natural remedies, such as this homeopathic formula I have written about, and explain how it helps here:
Ear Mite Remedies
Another common health problem experienced by dogs, is the infestation of ear mites. These parasites can cause itching and skin infections and must be dealt with right away. There are several natural remedies you can use for this problem.
- One is to apply some olive oil or garlic to the ear of your pet. Drop into your dog’s ear and the mites will go away, along with the infection.
When looking for natural remedies for your dog, you’ll encounter other remedies that are meant for cats or horses etc. Although these remedies may seem harmless, it is best that you only stick to those that are specifically designed for dogs.
Animals are very different, internally and externally, and each animal may have unique responses to natural treatments. So don’t take a chance on any natural treatment that you are not sure of. When it comes to the health of your pet, it is always better to double check the remedies rather than put them in danger.
