Natural Dog Arthritis Pain Relief Methods
Our dogs become more susceptible to all kinds of illnesses and dog health issues as they get older. One such illness that is very common among dogs, particularly the larger breeds, is dog arthritis and hip pain. This condition can be very painful and can trigger further problems when left untreated. If you want to save your dog from joint pain, it is very important that you find methods to give him relief as soon as the earliest symptoms become apparent.
Symptoms of Joint Pain
Identifying dog arthritis symptoms is not difficult at all because the signs are quite obvious.
Some of the signs you might notice are limping, lack of interest in playing or running, sleeping longer, excessive panting and low energy levels.
In some severe cases, there may also be visible swelling of the joints and extreme difficulty in movements.
Before your pet gets the signs of severe inflammation surrounding the joints and tissues, start looking at what you can do.
You should firstly take your pet to your veterinarian for a proper diagnosis to rule out any other problem.
There are many things you can do to give your dog arthritis pain relief, and while some of these treatments involve the use of medicine, there are also plenty of options if you want to use natural remedies for dogs.
- Hot or Cold Therapy – For example, your vet might prescribe heat or cold therapy to soothe your dog’s pain. This treatment requires you to apply a hot or cold compress to the affected area, while being careful that you don’t press too hard. Depending on the problem, the hot or cold therapy will be administered. Cold reduces inflammation, heat is soothing and relaxes muscles, so you need to know what you are treating.
- Glucosamine Supplements – Another effective method is to administer glucosamine supplements. Glucosamine is a sugar produced naturally by the body for the purpose of cartilage production and repair. Many of you would have heard of it for treating your own joint pain. The glucosamine that is in his body may not be enough to repair their damaged joints so it would be helpful to give him these types of supplements.
- Vitamin C and Bromelain – To maximize the benefits that these supplements can give, you might want to choose one that also contains Vitamin C, which gives protection against further deterioration of the bones in the joints, and Bromelain, which is a wonderful natural anti-inflammatory which will also promote faster healing of the joints. I use these myself! They are excellent for us too.
- Arthro-Ionx – I have written about this formula because it is homeopathic and all natural. (You can read my Arthro-IonX review.) What better way than to treat a dog health problem than with natural solutions? I prefer natural arthritis treatments in preference to other arthritis medicines.
Despite the effectiveness of all these natural dog arthritis pain relief methods, you can also help to make sure your pet gets regular exercise and always eats a balanced diet starting from his early years. If your dog is overweight this causes extra pain and pressure on their joints.
Prevention is always better than cure…and although we can’t prevent arthritis and joint pain in our dogs, we certainly have the power to keep them as healthy as possible and keep any dog health problems that may eventuate at bay.
